Zadok the Egoist

Zadok, from Hebrew “the just”, is not really an egoist, but an ego; a bodiless I; a ‘bloody beginner’ who, tortured by self-questioning, faces the “senselessness of all doing” and descends into the world of his own cruel fantasies.

Again and again his restless search drives him towards light, the symbol of love. “Zadok wanted to go to the light – a light that enabled the blind to see. Where could he find it?”

The novel is full of sarcasm and leads the reader into a surreal world where inside and outside are mixed up, and reality becomes a farce.

The journey of Zadok and his search for “the holy sword” is a book written with passion – full of strong, bizarre, imaginative scenes and situation comedy:

A “trip” without drugs, unfiltered fireworks, straight from the depth of the self.
